Dr. Dharamsing Teron Receives Prestigious Gerald L. Davis Project Pathway Award for Karbi Folklore Digital Archive.
Renowned folklore researcher, Dr. Dharamsing Teron, hailing from Assam's Karbi Anglong region, has been recognized with the prestigious Gerald L. Davis Project Pathway Award by the American Folklore Society. This esteemed accolade acknowledges his outstanding work in establishing a digital archive of Karbi folklore at the Centre for Karbi Studies, with the aim of safeguarding and sharing a rich tapestry of Karbi cultural elements, including folk songs, folktales, folk dances, life-stories, textiles, traditional clothing, jewelry, and a treasure trove of rare photos, videos, and books.
The Project Pathway Award serves as a testament to Dr. Dharamsing Teron's commitment to community scholarship in action. His project not only preserves Karbi heritage but also keeps the community connected, whole, and active.
Dr. Dharamsing Teron's contributions extend beyond folklore research. He has a distinguished political career, having served as a former Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) in the Assam Legislative Assembly representing Howraghat LAC in Karbi Anglong, Assam. Additionally, he has held the esteemed position of Chairman of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC).
In recognition of his remarkable efforts to document and preserve Karbi oral history and cultures, Dr. Teron was recently honoured with an Honorary Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree, Honorius Causa, by Guwahati University. This prestigious accolade underscores the profound impact of his work in the field of folklore and culture. He currently serves as the director of the Centre for Karbi Studies, a leading Karbi research organization dedicated to the study and preservation of Karbi heritage.
